Bullying: A documentary, research help.
i found this video on youtube which has helped me greatly in my research.

Location - School - Chikara - The chalonts community college, I chose to set it in the school due to my actors and actresses suffering the majority of their bullying in school.
My actor/s were Daniel, Nikki and anon
When I filmed the documentary I filmed three different people so I had lots of footage. I filmed three people two of which were happy to reveal themselves, they were Daniel Turrell and Nicola Evans
Filming was relatively easy due to to the subject matter, to film the footage I took out one of the school video camera’s and a a tripod. I used a tripod due to my own weakness of keeping the camera steady. Once at the location I moved some of the chairs around so there was nothing in front of the actor. To vary the footage I filmed two inside the room and the other outside.

Which one?
For my short film I have looked at short films on youtube to see what was out there on the internet on bullying. From my research I saw that there isn’t a lot of bullying extracts around. This spurred me into thinking a lot more about what I could achieve with the subject of bullying and concluded that there is two main ideas I could do with this.
Short-film with a fictional story
Or
Documentary with a real-life sufferer/s
I gave the two ideas a lot of thought and decided on a documentary style piece as that way it can be used for a lot more that a fictional short film about it.
This short film/documentary can be used within schools to raise awarenss about bullying. Bullying is known to happen around schools and in life yet awareness is still relatively small.

29th march filming.
Got cancelled due to lack of actress yet again.
Only decision at this late stage is to look at the Bullying idea that i wrote about in an earlier post.
Yet again i realise the problem/s in changing my idea so late in, but it's pretty impossible to get all the necessary filming done for Paranormal hunters in just one day/one evening.
The plan is as follows
Wednesday 30th March
08:20 Start, room find and set up equipment.
09:10 Tutor
09:20 Advertise for actors/actresses for filming.
09:30 Film, Film, Film
11:10 Break
11:30 Film + Edit
12:20 Lesson
13:10 Lunch + Edit
Then Lessons following.

Filming 4th March
Today i went off to my location and did some filming with my actress (Hayley White), Due to my own personal flaws i failed to check the battery levels on the camera i booked out and only had enough battery to film 32mins.
Despite this we cracked on and got some nice shots. During the process my idea progressed a bit further and decided to maybe try some try a bit of split screen. But not having Two separate pieces but with three or four.

Why my idea changed.
During the half term I kept trying and trying to film with my actress but had a few issues due to both mine and her personal lives.
When we finally were able to meet up we had a long chat about Magella and discussed both the high and low points of doing that subject, after the discussion I decided despite it being so far in to change my idea from the Magella Dawson cookery style short film to a Most haunted-esque short film.
I feel this change will be very beneficial to not only my personal view on my short but also it will allow me more freedom with my ancillary texts as I felt quite restricted when it came to the ancillary texts with Magella.
I know that it is far in to change or even think about changing my idea but I think it’s an achievable goal to have a new idea filmed and edited by the deadline considering I have unlimited access to the location and the actress I have swapped to is more available and better suited to the project.
The subject is flexible and can be bended into the spoofy take on Most haunted or could be a serious piece. I apologise for changing so far in but I feel that it will be the best idea for me.
The impact of this decision means i am squishing a lot of work into a short space of time, but i believe i can pull it off and create a good piece of work

Other Idea incase of another change.
During the early part of the A2 course I had a play about with a bullying piece with the message to stop/help stop bullying.
It would still be a short film but fall more into the documentry style of short instead of a film, short film.
My inspiration for this is that i was bullied as a child and still am a little at the age of 18. I honestly believe that it's one of those things that we all know it happens but don't do anything about.
I know it's one of those things that is commonly picked on but it really is a devasting thing to happen to someone.

Laura Mulvey and my work.
In conjunction to our Exam lessons which take place with Mrs Neale, we have looked at different theories.
I feel looking at my work i can really identify my work clashing with Laura Mulveys Male gaze theory, as my piece is about nigella lawson and trying to pick on the objectification of her, i think i can relate my piece well to her theory as it's about not objectifying woman.
I have gone out of my way to make a point about Nigella's show and the fact she is being objectified byu the camera and we see her through a 'Male Gaze'.
I think my work relates more to Mulveys Theroy as i have both inadvertintly and purposely played up to the idea of her exagerated movements to the camera and her sexiness.

Poster for Magella Dawson... Research! Re-made #1
As my short film is not a typical short film and is a spoof/cooking show i think making the poster will have very different codes and conventions than the poster of mainstream and independant posters, What seems to be apparent is that the parodied films and their posters have an element of the orginal present in both the film and the advertsing to go with it.
Looking at other spoof/parody film posters i have seen that there is a big difference in the look of the posters.
I have had a look at a few spoof poster such as…

Airplane
The 41 year old Virgin – Out of all the poster I have to say this is my favourite one, I think it’s because it’s relevant to my generation. I Like the way they have four titles which are included to make up the title. The pictures are also relevant as the actors used are lookalikes which bring the titles and pictures together. The background I think draws the viewer in as it’s an orange which catches the eye. I think the poster is well made and does it’s job in advertising the film.
For my poster I think I will use just a single photo of my actress and a piece of food such as a cake. I think the thing that will parody Nigella is the different actress who is playing her is a red head, and I will create a bad looking cake (messy) and then have my actress pose as if putting a cherry on the cake. Progression Re-made #1
Looking at my Animatic I can see there are some areas I need to work on…
-Sound usage
The sound in my Animatic was very Flat line and came completely from the video itself, I did have a soundtrack to go with the piece which I placed into the video however I think I may of done this wrong so is why the soundtrack did not play.
-Camera Steadiness
During the Animatic due to it being a filmed version it has made me aware of some issues I have with steadiness, this is very evident in the animatic as there are many shots which are ruined by my unsteadiness.
-Transitions
The majority of the animatic is very roughly edited, I think that I shall add in some transitions to make it the audience viewing smoother and feel less jumpy.
-Lighting
Lighting was problem the biggest problem I faced as the lighting fluctuates throughout the piece, to overcome this I shall bring in more artificial light onto the set as I think this will help the overall piece.
-Camera Shots
I think the use of shots in my piece do work well and show a varied outlook on the focus. I do feel however that I need to choose more rooted shots such as a mid-shot capturing the action of the cakes being made or a full body long shot of her preparing the food.
Overall
Watching the Animatic has also given me new ideas as to what I could insert into my film such as the aforementioned mid and long shots and also a few new ideas for the parody version of Nigella Lawson, such as wasting food (meaningless chopping), disgusting food.
I also see that there is a complete lack of an intro; I have a few ideas for the intro which I shall make a separate post about.

Planned filming for 16th
I had planned with my actress to meet up at my house and do some filming on sunday the 16th as mentioned before, However i managed to overlook the University of Plymouth's Taster day which fell on the same weekend meaning i would not be able to do filming with Sally as we were both in Plymouth participating in the Theatre and Performance Taster day.
We have re-arranged the filming for Next sunday being all well and good i hope to do the same timings and plan but on the 23rd and editing on the 24th

Arranged some Filming
Spoken to my actress today and we have arranged to meet up and do some filming as we were unable to meet up during the christmas holidays. we have arranged to do some filming on the 16th January
- Will be from 4pm onwards
- Me, Sally, Mum will be present
- I shall organise to borrow the following equipment
- Camera
- Tripod
- It will be in the same Location which is my house.
- I will then produce a newer Rough cut.

So far
I have produced my Publisher mock-up.
Due to not having photoshop and it is my prefered option of creation i will produce the photoshop product at school. I Think the review i have written is still quite basic but i am still quite unsure of it, I WILL go back and make changes to it.
